As a kid, Josh always dreamed of running equipment and building things when he grew up. As time went on he started to gain a heavy interest in the landscape industry. Josh decided to attend The University of New Hampshire for Horticultural Technology, planning on starting a general service landscape/hardscape business after college. After attending school and interning for another contractor he found that his passion was for the hardscape industry. After working as a sales representative and foreman after college for 3 years, Josh opened Mass Hardscapes in 2015 focusing on hardscape design and installation. Josh built Mass Hardscapes with a foundation of relationship building with customers and a high level of customer service.

In 2022 Josh began another business in the hardscape industry but with a different target audience. Rather than residential homeowners Josh began Hardscape Media Creations which captures and creates media content for high end hardscape contractors. After a year of managing Mass Hardscapes and building his new business, Josh decided it was time to put his whole focus on Hardscape Media Creations. After spending years building a premier outdoor living brand, Josh didn’t want to see the brand just disappear. Rather then selling the business to the highest bidder Josh reached out to a couple close friends who owned landscape businesses in the area to see if they had interest in taking over the brand. After going back and forth Josh found the perfect fit, Joey and Rusty Defina of Millennial Landscaping. Millennial Landscaping is a small, premier landscape company out of Wayland, MA. Josh and Joey met at The University of New Hampshire where Joey also received his degree in Horticultural Technology. With the same passion for quality and care for their customers Josh knew they were the ones to take over the brand.

Mass Hardscapes is now the hardscape and landscape construction division of Millennial Landscaping. Although a change in management the same level of quality and care will be provided to every customer. Our goal is still the same, design and create beautiful outdoor living spaces custom created for each individual family to enjoy together and make memories outdoors!

Mass Hardscapes installs only the highest quality products to the highest industry standards set by ICPI and NCMA. Our employees are continually trained on and off site on a regular basis and are taught to respect all of our customers and their properties. We have kept our business small, allowing ownership to be on every job site and maintain the level of quality that Mass Hardscapes was founded on. We are so confident in our installation methods that we carry a 5 year labor warranty on our work.

Service area

We service Middlesex County and Northwest Norfolk county. Most of our work is in Wayland, Weston, Wellesley, Sudbury, Natick and Framingham, but we often service towns such as Ashland, Hopkinton, Southborough, Sherborn, and Dover.
